Huge commitment at the climate conference in Baden near Vienna
In Summe mehr als achtzig Bürgerinnen und Bürger der Stadt Baden folgten der Einladung, sich ganz im Sinne des Mottos „Think global, act local“ der dreiteiligen Klimakonferenz aktiv an der Mitgestaltung einer zukunftsfähigen und lebenswerten Stadt zu beteiligen. Die auf Initiative von CHRISTIANS FOR FUTURE organisierte und in Kooperation mit den Badener Pfarren abgehaltene Veranstaltung bot zunächst Kindern (20.4.) und Jugendlichen (18.4) die Möglichkeit, ihre Wünsche, Anregungen und Forderungen an die Politik und Kirche zu definieren. Gemeinsam mit den Ergebnissen einer Online-Umfrage boten die Inputs der jungen Generation die inhaltliche Basis für die am 25. April stattgefundene Klimakonferenz für Erwachsene.
Klimaschutz ist einerseits ein Umweltthema, aber auch eine gesellschaftliche Herausforderung der nächsten Jahrzehnte, weil Umwelt und Soziales zusammengedacht werden müssen. Das „FairWandeln-Team“ der Katholischen Aktion unterstützt Menschen in und rund um Pfarrgemeinden, die gemeinsam aktiv werden wollen und Ideen verwirklichen und so ein ökologischeres, faireres und sozialeres Umfeld schaffen. So greifen Pfarren die Anliegen und Sorgen der Menschen vor Ort auf und leisten einen aktiven Beitrag zu den aktuellen Herausforderungen unserer Zeit (Fairwandeln | Katholische Aktion der Erzdiözese Wien (ka-wien.at)).
A personal message of greeting from the Archbishop Cardinal Dr. Christoph Schönborn, which impressively expressed his thanks and appreciation for the commitment to all participants* of the conference, caused great joy.
Encouraging was also the participation of the mayor Stefan SZIRUSCSEK and the deputy mayor Helga KRISMER as well as the active participation of other political officials of the city of Baden.
The participation of citizens from Baden and the surrounding area and the high level of commitment exceeded all expectations. In a four-hour process led by experienced moderators, possibilities for sustainable development in the city of Baden were explored and concrete projects defined. The focus was placed on six key areas: Transport, waste, energy, food, purchasing and land use. As a result, four projects were decided upon and project teams were formed.
The project "Awareness Raising" will develop an implementation concept for eco-social awareness raising by parish actors and define concrete educational measures. A team is dedicated to a participatory process for the establishment of so-called "bicycle streets" in the urban area of Baden. An efficient "use of rainwater" in the establishment of parishes in Baden through the planning and construction of cisterns was also decided as a project idea. And a project team will deal with the topic "networking of sustainable projects and initiatives" in Baden and the establishment of a "barter circle".
Die Klimakonferenz ist ein Teil einer Serie von Veranstaltungen, die im Rahmen des „Aktionsjahres Laudato si’ “ noch bis Anfang Oktober stattfinden. Die Initiative CHRISTIANS FOR FUTURE folgt dem Aufruf zum Schutz der Schöpfung und rückt damit die Anliegen für den Schutz der Schöpfung weiter ins Zentrum christlichen Engagements. Sie bemüht sich dabei auch um die Vernetzung der Zivilgesellschaft, Politik und Kirche, um gemeinsam für eine ökosoziale Transformation einzutreten und vom Reden ins Tun zu kommen.
